It’s rare occurrence when an opener at a local venue transforms an entire crowd into a moshing frenzy, yet this prowess and vitality is exactly what Young Jasper brings to the table. Hailing from Chicago, the rapper instantly blew me away as he came onstage to his hit song “Guns N Lean” where 30 seconds into the track he mind bendingly switches flows. After the show I kept close tabs on Jasper, delving into his entire discography. Underground Underdogs featured his single “UNOTHRAXX” as a Track of the Day back in December, and to my surprise the comment section was flooded with bat emojis by his fans. I soon realized that the emcee already has a cult following.
Since his impressive performance back in November, Young Jasper most recently released the single “TIP TOP” which features bone rattling production by Bobby Johnson. The invigorating rapper makes it known he’s still in tip top shape after not releasing any music for months. He spits about avoiding groupies and other distractions over Johnson’s energetic yet brutal 808s. Despite being only 1:38 long “TIP TOP” is an immersive and lively single that only further proves that Young Jasper is one of the most exciting artists coming out of Chicago right now.
