It is an average Thursday night, and while most 14-year-olds are at home getting ready to end their day, Suigeneris is just getting started. Instead of finishing his homework or playing video games, he is performing at a Lyrical Lemonade showcase alongside underground superstars Lil Xan and Lil Skies.
Native to Los Angeles, Suigeneris’ first big break was an Adam22 Tweet about his breakout hit “Pull Up,” where the 14 year old dances in designer clothes rapping about foreign cars and drugs. The video has already skyrocketed to over 300,000 views and continues to climb. The sudden exposure provided by the infamous Adam22 with just a single Tweet is providing the youngster with connections to some of the hottest talent in the rap scene. His song “Now” features Lil Skies and has racked up an immense 2 million plays on SoundCloud.
It’s not just rappers talking notice either, music director Cole Bennett has also noticed the appeal of the 14 year old, believing that Suigeneris will be one of 2018’s biggest success stories and it’s hard not to agree. At first glance, Suigeneris seems almost like a caricature of modern SoundCloud rappers – he talks almost entirely about the vast amounts of drugs he does, how many women he is intimate with, and how much money he constantly has, but dig deeper and he does not disappoint. His ability to make quick and catchy hooks shows that he could have longevity, a trait that must be incredibly important for any artist that young. He also knows how to get people’s attention, even if it is just from shock value.
Suigeneris is one of the youngest rappers the scene has seen who has actually been able to prove that he is not just a joke taken too far, but an artist that can genuinely make good music. With the connections that he has, and his ability to make light-hearted, amped up tracks, Suigeneris has the ability to create a career for himself before he even graduates from high school.
