With a name like Macho Randy you’re bound to catch people’s attention. Seeing artists with names that are purposefully self deprecating or inherently funny is the norm on SoundCloud these days – there seem to be just as many meme accounts as there are talented artists. However, there is also a very small group of accounts that fall under both categories and do it well, a great example being Macho Randy.
Releasing his first few tracks 8 months ago with producer Hollywood Bangers, he didn’t particularly stand out. With catchy pop hooks, auto tuned verses, trappy beats, the songs are produced well and have clever lines but its nothing out of the ordinary. It was clear the kid has talent but how far he was going to take it wasn’t.
That all changed later that same month with the release of “One More Night with Randy.” The title leads the listener to assume the song is going to be more or less a joke, but the moment you play it I promise you’re only thinking one thing: this kid can sing. The lyrics, packed full of confidence and humor, somehow seem to elevate his soulful voice. As weird as it sounds, the song makes the listener feel. His listen count jumped from barely a few thousand to 11K with an outpouring of enthusiasm from fans claiming Randy is something special; so special in fact, he caught the attention of some big names.
The very next song he dropped, “THIS THAT” featured none other than underground sensation and teenage hearthrob Lil Xan. It’s clear that from that point forward, while he hadn’t let go of his quirky content, Macho Randy was going to be taken seriously. It’s this newfound recognition that allowed him to drop “RANDY’S RIGHT!,”a seriously unique and strange game show host style tune – and get away with it. Just a couple weeks ago Macho Randy released “IDK why I’m like this” produced and featuring vocals by Shinigami, making fans from last year hopeful to see Randy back on the rise.
With his listener count back up, names like Lil Xan, Shinigami, and TrillGotJuice littering his page, and the talent he has revealed to listeners thus far, we think Macho Randy is going to continue to surprise us with new projects and collaborations in the near future.
