Texas-based artist fats’e is more than a prolific artist within the SoundCloud guitar scene. His endless slew of self-produced, often forward thinking singles and collaborations with artists like 93feetofsmoke, nothing, nowhere., YungJZAisDead, Atlas, 9tails and more has set him up as one of the most underrated yet influential artists in the community.
His new project, finds purpose in misery is a departure from his more recent sound that, while not falling far from the tree, has a unique feeling and almost dark atmosphere. The opening guitar of the album feels like a cabaret version of a twinkling midwest-emo jam, and is far different from anything you’ll here on other people’s pages. The second single released before the tape, “Watch Me Bleed Out” features dueling synths and guitars as the vocals switch from clean, clear vocals to deeply distorted yells to glitchy autotune on the more digital moments. This vocal style remains throughout the tape, bringing a unique feel to the project.
The production is on-point and on par with bigger contemporaries in the style. fats’e shows song after song that he can stand on his own, make a catchy song, and still be original all at once. Some songs feel like a solo-singer while others feel like a band and others even feel like a producer who just decided to do vocals to fill the song out and everything just fit right.
Overall the album is an intensely original moment in a genre that has been lackluster and dry recently. fats’e shows innovation and the drive to move the style forward instead of letting it stand still where it is. take a listen to finds purpose in misery below.
