Minnesota’s BVLLVH has been making music since about 2015, collaborating with Lil Soda Boi, Playhouse and more. However, it was one of his most recent songs, “jane” is the song that really caught our attention.
The song is a bit of a surprise. The self-produced the song pulls out all the stops – autotune, a glittery dance pop beat, pitch shifting vocals, and when the final hook hits you just wanna dance to it all night. It’s the type of song you find on SoundCloud that is almost everything all in one. “jane” is a clever blend of everything current and everything nostalgic.
“I can take you to the mall and spend all this cash
Girl, your lust is like a drug so you know I relapse
But you take me as a scrub and it’s such a setback”
BVLLVH’s heartbroken vocals weave in and out of the beat easily, with each section flowing into the next. Eventually his singing culminates into a drop where the vocals begin to pitch up and cut to make a whole new melody, reminiscent of a Daft Punk song rather than the average SoundCloud emo song. BVLLVH is definitely onto something different with this song and will hopefully experiment more with the sound he is developing.
