NOK from the Future is a faceless, nameless, and location-less creator, emerging as an internet presence around 2013. In past interviews, he revealed that he started as a marching band drummer who had a craving to make music of his own. Starting with gaming software and bootleg programs, he eventually worked his was up to the production quality we hear today. Since his decision to begin creating as an individual, he has grown a large following. His most popular song on Spotify has over 2 million plays, with his second most popular closely following at over a million. Gaining most of this attention with features like Kevin Abstract, Cousin Stizz, Night Lovell, Dylan Brady, and Ro Ransom, NOK has continued to impress fans with his distinct vocals, aggressive beats, and catchy hits.
However, that all changed about a year ago as NOK announced he would no longer be releasing music as ‘NOK from the Future,’ but adopting a new moniker tied to his persona; 014. Under the new name, 014 released a short, simple, and angsty song called “Town,” along with a video that pictures a silhouette with some trippy visuals. While this 1:35 minute song was not quite like NOK’s earlier work, it peaked interest from old listeners.
014 was able to maintain many of his NOK fans at first, but over the course of the past year he has been slightly difficult to follow. Several songs and videos were posted, then taken down. He released a song “Wase Time” this past September under his previous name, NOK, with visual art that appears to be a mockery of old Apple ads with the same silhouette as his first 014 video. In January he posted a dramatic clip of a silhouette saying ‘I need time, be patient with me’.
It’s still unclear what 014’s plan really is but just recently, over a year after his last release (that is still up), he released another silhouette video to accompany the short song “Adderall.” It’s 1:21 minutes long and slightly repetitive, but for whatever reason it has us convinced whatever he’s doing is going to be worth the wait. His sound in this clip, reminiscent of the digital vocals in “Relaxation,” proves he still has the passion we heard from him as NOK. Give it a watch and let us know if you think 014 will live up to his NOK project, just like we think it will.
