Cal Scruby, one of the most notable underground artists from my hometown Cincinnati, just released his music video for “Show You Something.” Directed by Sterling Hampton and shot by Adam Shattuck, this video is nothing short of sensational.
Cal captioned his post ‘scrooby doo and shaggy’, which is already super clever at face value, but as we watch it only keeps working on more levels. Upon starting the video, we see a stony Cal in an old Chevy g-series van with lighting that gives it the iconic mystery van look, by adding some wavy visual effects and a clip of a dramatic hand crank window to release the hot box the scene is set as the best Scooby Doo rap tribute of all time.
Perhaps not immediately apparent, ‘shaggy’ is then identified as none other than underground artist Lil Aaron. Whether it’s the green hair or the personality we’ve all come to know and love, his presence in this video was a fantastic decision. As the two artists puff and pass, Cal spits bars on the level we’ve come to expect from him, overall backing up the great visuals with an even better song.
