At just 19 years old, 2kthagoon has already established himself in the underground scene and built buzz around his name. He continues to curate melodic hooks over beats produced by major figures such as CaptainCrunch and Jaysplash.
Coming out of North Carolina, 2kthagoon has exploded by putting out two projects, Triple 7 Gang and This Year which combine bouncy instrumentals with 2k’s tranquil flows. He even has a feature from the legendary “BVNDGXD” rapper himself, Chxpo. 2k has also worked with the likes of ColdHart and North Carolina brethren RonSoCold. With this collaborations, it is evident his talent is easily recognizable.
When you listen to 2k’s music you can hear somewhat of a Chief Keef influence, which he has acknowledged as one of his favorite rappers of all time. In his interview on the Back 2 Back Hip Hop Podcast, 2kthagoon revealed he has been rapping for around five years and originally started off trying to be super lyrical. After a while got sick of it, and found his niche with the glittery autotune and melodies. When asked about the origin of his name, he said that 2k actually has nothing to do with the video game, but rather refers to an old stage name of his that had two Ks at the end.
His most popular song to date, titled “Worth it” has an astounding 280,500 plays. “Lean No Liquor” and “Bands Up” are honorable mentions as well, combining for around 366,000 plays. 2kthagoon knows how to brand himself well and has his own sound on lock. Most tracks start off with him crooning the words “Oh my god bitch” which lets you know exactly who you are listening to from the jump.
His flawless execution of the melodic trap sound has created the right recipe for something huge. Each track seems to effortlessly top the last, seemingly on the verge of becoming mainstream. He seems to take pride in his music, focusing on quality over quantity. 2k announced via Twitter that a new EP is coming soon, and many are expecting some more breakout tracks in the future.
