Wet Boyz – Chuk Chuk Bang Bang

Before you read the title and leave confused, I highly suggest you listen to the song. With the emergence of artists such as Keith Ape and channels featuring Asian artists such as 88rising, Korean rappers have begun breaking out into the American Scene. The Wet Boyz are a Korean collective of two, who have been dropping fire for the past year. They haven’t dropped a song recently, but they left us with a gem before their hiatus. Featuring Eddie Pauer, “Chuk Chuk Bang Bang”(produced by HARUHI) features a catchy and cute chime driven beat, something reminiscent of a nursery rhyme. The difference, however, is that the Wet Boyz deep vocals beautifully compliment the beat. Although they weave in and out of a number of flows, their lines all stick to the general pattern they have going, which make the song catchy, but not repetitive. The vibe of the song almost feels as if you’re sitting in front of a warm fire, but at the same time inside of a pink and blue ice cream store with the love of your life.

Contrary to every other song on the internet, this song isn’t about losing someone, but about maintaining the relationship they are in with other people. His deep vocals aren’t about his sadness, but his love for a girl who he is dating. Their lyrics mention their innocent, almost child-like belief that their love will last forever, which makes the beat that much more fitting.

The song begins with

“샴푸 냄새가 나는 너를 좋아해
구름 위를 걷는 우리 상상해
너의 마음씨는 쭉쭉 빵빵해
오늘도 땜에 눈이 호강해

“I like you and the smell of your shampoo
I imagine us walking across the clouds
Your kindness is plentiful
Again I wake up and see your beauty”

“Chuk Chuk Bang Bang”, or “쭉쭉빵빵” is generally a term used to describe women that means long/straight and plentiful. In the song he continually uses this term to describe his relationship, long and plentiful. Generally this term is not seen in the most polite term as some find it disrespectful, but rather than its common meaning it is used literally.

Unfortunately rap is genre where their lyrical style isn’t quite shown across languages, but even simply out of audible pleasure, I suggest a listen. The Wet Boyz are currently working on a number of singles and should be out with another album at some point. There is no doubt that they’ll be internationally famous if they keep up the bar they set. Stay tuned for more from the Wet Boyz.
