With countless creators in and out of the underground, it’s rare to see artists who have successfully evolved their sound while remaining familiar to their audiences. Blvc Svnd is an artist who epitomizes the energy of growth; already establishing an impressive career by his early adulthood, and proving the strength of his musical arsenal. Blvc Svnd, establishing himself as a producer, had already shown us that he can turn the tables at any moment through his raw musical talent. His productions are full of intent; crafted with a musical ear to create technically sound orchestrations that display a range of emotion, energy, and prowess. More recently, his evolution as a vocalist has proved Blvc Svnd as a multi-faceted powerhouse with undeniable work ethic. At this point in his career, the lines between producer and vocalist have blurred, taking form of something much greater. Now Blvc Svnd just is: taking both sides of his creation to create a career that refuses to be categorized.
His most recent project Lil Grain Season embodies the unexpected energy he has cultivated over the years. This 10 track mixtape shows the Blvc Svnd we know, but with a darker, moore ominous air. These tracks seem to push the envelope in a way Blvc Svnd hasn’t yet. We continue to receive his high energy vocals and complex productions, but this time with an inevitable twist. “I was tryna capitalize on this trap metal sound,” said the artist, whose inspiration from metal and rock made the attempt inevitable. Blvc Svnd took this ‘trap metal’ concept that has oversaturated the community, and done what he does best: developed a sound that is bigger, better, and more technically sound than what is going on in the community at the time. What is even more interesting about this tape, is the apparent progression in vocals. Lil Grain Season shows us Blvc Svnd in a new light, taking his rightfully earned confidence to communicate and create in ways he hasn’t before. We can HEAR the change in energy behind him. While Lil Grain Season shows a different side of Blvc Svnd musically, his progression runs much deeper than just an evolved skillset. He has cornered a newfound strength, motivating him to try this even darker sound, simply because he can.
“I like trying different things. My next project is gonna have the distorted stuff but ima have a lot more melodic stuff on this next shit I drop.”
The tracks each contain the barebones of the ‘trap metal’ genre, with signature production styles, and screams. The mixtape, as per usual, is produced in entirety by Lil Grain himself, despite a rare production collaboration between him and underground legend killstation on the track “TASTE THE METAL”. Killstation also joins vocally on the track, as well as Gizmo. This and “HAMMER TIME” are the only features included on the project. Stand out tracks LEGIT and DIRTY DAN showcase his stylings at a new level, and set the tone for future work.
“LEGIT and DIRTY DAN I’m most proud of. DIRTY DAN because I changed up the way I arrange my stuff and that’s what I wanna start doing more.”
While Lil Grain Season provided an edge to Blvc Svnd that we had not seen yet. Darker, heavier, and more dangerous, the artist never stops developing his sound and creating new sounds for his following. Whether you enjoyed Lil Grain Season or not, upcoming projects guarantee something for everyone, with the double threat promising “half hardcore half melodic” project with maybe even a mixture of singing and screaming. Blvc Svnd’s undeniable ability to keep an audience engaged in this day and age is a testament to his artistry. Check out Lil Grain Season, and stay tuned for Blvc Svnd latest project next month.
