2017 was an enormous year for the South Florida based collective Members Only. Acts such as XXXtentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God were propelled to the rap mainstream, and solidified themselves as legitimate artists with longevity. Back in Florida however, lesser known act KiD TRUNKS is working harder than ever and establishing himself at the rap forefront alongside his friends. Following in the footsteps of his fellow rappers, KiD TRUNKS creates high paced, energetic music, which includes catchy and explosive flows, lo-fi beats, and over the top ad libs. On April 12th KiD TRUNKS released the video for the song IDK, which premiered on WorldstarHipHop, and at the time of this review has managed to already surpass over one million views. Just like his other hits such as Talk and Pulp Fiction, IDK is a short track that relies on its impact rather than overstaying its welcome. In less than two minutes the track has two verses and a hook, all of which are pieced together purposefully. The video itself takes place at a house party, yet director WINCHOZ is able to make the visuals unique. The visuals are slightly humorous and make the video much more enjoyable to watch, especially because with a different director and the video could have easily turned into the stereotypical mob shots. The song itself is on par with the rest of the production. The hook is catchy and will latch onto listeners ears after only one or two listens. TRUNKS raps about his place in the rap world with the lyric “I forgot, I’m the one that’s ’bout to pop,” knowing that it’s his time to shine now, and that the rest of Members Only have gotten their chances. Overall the track stands out in KiD TRUNK’s discography and is definitely one of his strongest singles. If the success of his contemporaries is any indication of how far the Vietnamese-American will be able to go, then as long as he continues creating solid music like IDK, his future looks very bright.
