One of the nagging complaints throughout the music industry is that there is a lack of honesty, soul, and authenticity in most establishing new artists. Emo alternative Lil Lotus continues to flourish together in all three missing components, however. Lotus continuously flashes his heart on his sleeve through his lyrical abilities, while simultaneously delivering awe-inspiring vocal performances.
Having just come off a nationwide tour with emo/trap/alternative giant nothing, nowhere., Lil Lotus has proven he will not be slowing down anytime soon with new song “Starz </3”. “Starz </3” distinguishes Lotus from the rest of the newly cemented alternative genre in many ways.
The first thing a listener can expect from Lotus is a plethora of catchy melodies combined with a unique style of singing. Whereas many could argue that he has the soul enchanting voice of a late 2000s band member, he thrives whether or not he is paired with live instrumentation or a heartthrob inducing beat by DeliverTheCrush.
“Starz </3” is a great example of Lotus unique singing capabilities as he flawlessly croons his voice. Lotus floats over the smooth sub-bass, and seamlessly flexes the range of his voice throughout the track. His lyricism is an exemplary example of sadness while still being catchy, as he convincingly hymns:
We were falling apart // In your room all alone counting starz in the ceiling // Now you’re scared of the dark // Cause as soon as I leave it’s just you and your demons
Lil Lotus has proven he has both the talent and the work ethic to become the next big thing, often collaborating with other underground artists over his tenure such as 4evr, Cold Hart, Shinigami, and even co-founded the trendsetting collective Boyfriendz. While his 2017 EP BODYBAG showcased a peak of Lotus and what his impeccable capabilities are as an artist, the underground awaits his debut album with “Starz </3” as a hopeful indication of an immediate release.
