Unbranded: IAMNOTAHUMANBEING

In the Fall/Winter season of 2015, “IAMNOTAHUMANBEING” dropped their first line of clothing in partnership with a small hole in the wall streetwear store, “LAKickz”. At the time Korea was not generally not fully enveloped in the streetwear trend and those who followed it were considered extremely underground. During such a time, IAMNOTAHUMANBEING’s collection shook fashion in Korea. It was different than anything anyone had attempted before in the Korean fashion scene.

Rigid letter prints, cut and sew garments, deconstructed t shirts, and destroyed pants are only some of the things you would find from Korean street brand, “IAMNOTAHUMANBEING”. The brand has an almost emo influence.

Launched in Seoul, South Korea by graphic designer Lil Deezy, “IAMNOTAHUMANBEING” seeks to do away with all the musty norms in society. Many of their prints include the motto “same old shit” referring to the same fashion that is recycled everyday. Contrary to other brands, Lil Deezy incorporates the Japanese style patterns and using his very own “mix and match” sewing method.

Attracting Korean fashion titans such as Hanhae, Day-day, Minho and many others, IAMNOTAHUMANBEING has swept Korea by storm. The brand has also done collabs with other Korean fashion heads such as Pink Panther, 8 Seconds, and even Playboy. The brand has also been proudly repped by prominent K-Pop idols, Zico, Mino, Jay Park, SHINee’s JongHyun and Bobby.

“IAMNOTAHUMANBEING” embodies the voice of the youth and shares the message of being different. Their motto is “same old shit”, to mock the similarity and style of the fashion scene. It emphasizes personality and uniqueness rather than hopping on to whatever is cool. Although the brand has moved farther away from their destroyed loud graphics, it has found its place among other brands in Korean fashion.

Although the brand is somewhat hard to access to those outside of Korea, those who enjoy the edgy, distressed style of IAMNOTAHUMANBEING will continue to seek it out regardless of its difficulties for those outside of the country.
