Unbranded: Mr. Completely

A lot of brands abuse the distressed style and stop there. Not many venture forward and push the limits of creativity, but Mr. Completely is one of those brands. Although it gained some popularity in 2015 for its edginess and unique cutting style with Fear of God, it was quickly swept into the underground.

Not much is known about Mr. Completely. Created by Keith Richardson and Lukas Eichmann, the site indicates nothing of its physical store, its influences, or its social media other than Instagram. It is known to be based in LA, but there is no source of information for this mysterious, low-key brand. It is stocked only in a small number of online stores including END, 424 on Fairfax, and their very own online store. With such little exposure, it would have been very hard to maintain the brand’s image and keep it significant.

However, it’s refusal to conform to any of the trends we see today has kept it relevant. The brand’s most notable collection, “Anger” is generally what people envision if they have heard of Mr. Completely before. Rather than distressing the hoodie, Mr. Completely opts to simply let the threads of its graphic hang, use staples in place of stitches, and cut the hood to give it the custom vibe. To top it off, the safety pin in exchange for the strings of the hoodie give it a uniqueness not many other brands have attempted. However, they go on much further than the simple anger hoodie. From very strange cuts, to bondage pants, to drawn on designs and embroidery, Mr. Completely strives to be unique. None of their designs are like the other and push the limits of creativity. No stitch is left like the others. Every aspect of it’s clothing sports uniqueness and self expression. It remains a special piece of the street community and actively tries to defy all norms in fashion. The brand has an unspoken motto of every piece being created as if it was a “one of one” piece. Every piece is unique and makes it a point to reflect a modern street closet of handmade pieces.

It gained a considerable amount of popularity in Korea, when Instagram fashion figures occasionally pulled the piece for photoshoots. However, it never caught on to the mainstream and remained simply collectors pieces between underground fashion enthusiasts. Since than it has begun to caught on being seen on fashion icons and popular rappers such as Rich the Kid, Tyga, Big Sean and The Weeknd. Although the lack of information behind the brand makes it difficult to explain the history, it has remained low-key since its creation and will most likely continue. Mr. Completely is and has been a very large player in the world of streetwear.
