Generating significant buzz alongside Lil Aaron and Lil Lotus in their three piece project Boyfriendz, smrtdeath also has his own Fish Narc produced album on the way. Until then, Canada’s very own smrtdeath returns to our ears with his Y2K produced single “caught up.”
Meeting through Lil Aaron, producer Y2K was one of the first people smrtdeath met in Los Angeles, and the two hit it off instantly. As of late, smrtdeath told Underground Underdogs that the two are “doing a band soon — we just finished an album for it.” He went on to tell us that “I was at [Y2K’s] place and too tired to work on [the band] so we wanted to do something fun,” and the track “caught up” was the result.
Starting off with dream like melody and an eerie wolf howl, we are greeted with a pre-chorus reciting the title of the track. The red-haired singer describes being caught up in his emotions, unable to discern if it is drugs or his lover that is making him feel this way. Y2K’s bouncing drums lead off the beat, with smrtdeath delivering a verse and then another chorus until the track fades out. A shorter song at two minutes, the listener is left craving more from the powerful pair. Y2K and smrtdeath show no signs of slowing down, and the two have exciting projects to look forward to both individually and as a duo. In the meantime, take a listen to “caught up” below.
