Throwback Thursday: longlost – abaddon

The underground scene is filtered with a vast amount of producers striving for greatness paired with coinciding remarkable grinds. However, many culminate small yet devoted fan bases and are left in the shadows of the artists that they produce for. Some producers themselves have decided to take on the role of an artist to put themselves on full display. Acts such as Jay Vee and killedmyself for example have excelled in creating their own unique path to greatness. Like the previously mentioned creators, musician longlost is entering the realm of powerhouse producer/artists in a redefining lane alone.

Much of what is the longlost sound infuses huge bass drops coupled together with beautiful, melodic chords and notes. Released over a year ago, the track “abaddon” is best summed up as a bass dropping thunderstorm.

“I came up with the name after researching some things on angels and mythology,” longlost explained. “I wanted it to have a cool ass name to go with the movie sample I had. I found ‘abaddon’ to be quite fitting to the sample since it translates to the angel of death.”

The sample from the movie The Prophecy begins the track, a sample that longlost himself credits to finding fairly casually.

“For samples like that, I usually just watch something and hear it,” longlost stated. “Immediately after hearing something good, I usually sample it or bookmark it to sample later.”

While a piano melody hits throughout the song and feels like the heart throbbing focal point throughout, the major focus is on the mind bending 808s. Bass hits throughout the song while hi-hats are carefully tucked away within the mix of the song. The song comes off as a masterfully created canvas of frustration.

Asked about the vibe of the song, longlost said “When I create a dark track like “abaddon” or my others like “misery”, “black” and “sleep”, I’m usually really pissed off or I’m really unhappy at that point in time.”

Listeners will have to hear the track for themselves, but longlost shared how he believed that the second drop in the song is his favorite part created from the hour long session saying that “My favorite part of “abaddon” would have to be the second drop where I (threw) in the scream and the distorted melody.”

While the 19 year old artist has seemingly been under the radar, he is preparing to release an EP with starlight bonjr that has been under construction for the last year. He also has other collaborations coming out soon with many other artists including the likes of gin$eng, lux la fuego, and lil lucifer.

The song has over half a hundred thousand plays, and rightfully so much of the longlost catalogue has racked up a massive amount of streams. “I hope you enjoyed listening to (“abaddon”) as much as I enjoyed making it, and I love all of you who listened to “abaddon” or any of my other tracks,” longlost said while concluding this track breakdown. “Without my fans, I wouldn’t be alive right now so thank you.”
