Kane Grocerys is a lot of things, but one thing he isn’t is hard to miss. Standing at NBA-player height, I had no problem finding the rapper with the praying hands tattooed on forehead in downtown Chicago.
It turns out that Kane is from Waukegan, just north of Chicago. He just came in the weekend previously to stay in Chicago for a bit, and we both met up. One thing he made clear right off the bat is how much he likes walking. A 20 minute walk justifies an Uber ride for me, but Kane insisted that we just walk down Michigan avenue and do some sight seeing. Along with us was his Russian girlfriend, who was experiencing Chicago for the first time.
As we passed through Millennium Park, Kane was reminiscent of his childhood. He recalled ice skating and playing in Crown Fountain. We walked up to the reflective Bean sculpture to his girlfriend’s wonderment, and we all took some photos. We stayed around the iconic Chicago staple before heading to where Kane was staying, 27 stories up in downtown Chicago.
We all went out on the balcony to smoke, and I made a comment on how I was afraid of heights. To my surprise, Kane replied quite candidly, “When you on the top you just have to remember that all those people on the bottom can’t be up here right now. That’s why you can’t be scared.” That alone provided me insight on how thoughtful Kane really is, and it was incredibly interesting interviewing him.
