Hauntingly powerful vocals and a catchy, grungy guitar melody are what make aleksia’s new song, “menace” a masterful, woeful piece of art. Staying true to heart-on-sleeve lyrics and tristful tones, the fats’e production is a wrenching declaration of pain. The unsampled track, mixed and mastered by demxntia, captivates the helplessness one feels when the weight of the world is finally too much. We hear her bruised heart and are pulled right alongside its beat.
A moody, distorted electric strum sets us up nicely for aleksia’s wistful singing. She describes an internal restlessness and deeply rooted self-hatred. Feeling overused and under appreciated, she finally releases a pent-up tornado of frustration: “You’re a fucking menace, your brain is full of malice.” The sincerity in her voice stings, and we can’t help but hurt with her.
A fast, even hi-hat and sliding 808 trail us through the rest of the song. The lyrics read like a diary page; every line is loaded with agony. “I can’t save you, I can’t even save me” is an honest confession that many, unfortunately, only realize at their breaking point. Upholding an image, whether to fake it for yourself for others, is a laborious task. menace lays out the raw underbelly of existence.
A well-rounded artist (check out her photography on Instagram), aleksia’s voice flows seamlessly through any genre. Listen to “u exist out of my dreams” to hear her acoustic palette and “blank face girl” for more synth-club beats. It’s exciting to see diverse talent be put forth with such quality. We look forward to the work aleksia puts out next.
