New York based artist Ca$hrina is arguably one of the more interesting people we have came across as of late. You might have seen her in one of our “Fits of the Week” articles before, or maybe hanging around fellow NYC artist, Nick Prosper, someone who she said she goes way back with. Whether it’s fashion, music, makeup, art, or virtually anything else you can think of, Ca$hrina is somehow involved. She gave us a quick little introduction to her thoughts on her music and the other things she has going on.
Ca$hrina has ventured out and experimented with a lot of different beats, showing up to the challenge and still making something great. You can see the transformation from the Ca$htape to some of the newer tracks like “Lil Uzi Hurt.” Her latest single “HEARTBREAKSZN” is one of my personal favorites and once again, something a lot different than previous tracks. She had this to say about the Boy Floss produced song, “It’s always a sound I had in the vault and experimented with, but expressing my feelings through my music took some time because I’m constantly trying to express my strongest qualities over my sadness. I feel this year my music is becoming 100% what I’m feeling/going through in the moment.”
One thing I’ve noticed about Ca$hrina is her ratio of music videos to the amount of songs she has out at the moment. She expressed her thoughts about the substance of visuals, “It’s super important to have a video for almost every song because to the listener, they have their own vision of what they see when they hear your music, so when they see the vision the artist has for the video it’s super dope. It’s kind of like reading a book and then a movie comes out.” However it’s not completely just a strategic move to her, she has a genuine love for shooting music videos. “It’s awesome making videos. Putting all your ideas, outfits, and vibes together is so satisfying to me. It really lets my creativity shine.”
Speaking of creativity, Ca$hrina has done a couple of videos where she combines makeup with her music, something you don’t see quite often. One video she freestyles during a makeup tutorial all about what she’s doing at the moment, making for some hilarious content. “That was totally organic! My thought process was hmm I’m gonna just upload me doing my makeup and then when I was editing it, my friend was playing a beat that he wanted me to get on. I just started freestyling what I was doing in the video out loud and recorded it. It was hella funny [laughs]”.
Moving forward, she says she has some secret collaborations in the works, and “a lot of other monumental stuff dropping soon.” In the meantime, go check out her thrift account on Instagram @thrift.star, and if you’re looking for some more new music check out everything else on her Soundcloud here.
