After months on end of hype, DOGDEER; the joint project between the electric duo of vocalist Bambi and producer Hounds has finally arrived.
Kicking things off with a bang, the record opens with energetic track “Holetime.” The smacking 808s, fast paced hats and offbeat snares slap you in the face with no warning, an instrumental to get you out of your seat. Featuring BBNO$ and Bosrico, the verses entwine through the beat with ease, leaving a flow irresistible to nod along to.
Following this comes “Lipgloss.” Despite the pace slowing down, the intensity is still heavily present. Wobbly chimes and a thunderous drop, the beat punches with vigor, accompanying the vocals identically. Bambis contagious, energy brimming raps stick in your head.
Still keeping the tempo low, but the atmosphere razor sharp, third song “VVS130” sets a vigilant aura of something dark creeping around the corner. The tracks dark pads are sinister, corresponding admirably with the maleficent vocals.
Next up comes “Mob.” Bringing in some new names to the forefront, Bambi recruits Strap, Mac D and again Bosrico, with each verse meshing smoothly with each other, building up a strong structure in between the contentious ‘’Lil Boy get shot, Green Beam Staring from the Glock’’ hook. Filled with wonky synths and ripping basslines, the vigorous track picks the pace back up and deals damage.
After this comes “Run.” Jittery bells, stuttering hats and a catchy hook, the lively track bounces with life, with a flow hard to keep up with. The same can be said with seventh song “Snow.” The mystical melodies from Hounds run up fast, leaving it difficult to stop tapping your foot alongside. Surprisingly, “Snow” was recorded into a phone, but according to Bambi, “Hounds just finessed it.”
Also featuring recently released singles “Top” and “Wonky,” the project keeps things engaging for the current fans, while bringing out new bangers to keep things fresh. Further solidifying Bambi’s dark, threatening sound and brooding energy, DOGDEER is an EP that exemplifies what the young artist is bringing to the table. Overall, the record proves that Bambi and Hounds have their feet on the gas with no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
