Vocalist Fukkit has been putting out content in the underground scene at a rapid rate over the past few years, building up his following. Joining forces with fellow Midnight Society producer Dutchman, the duo bring out a fast paced, nimbly flowing extended play Scratch Paper.
Opening with pre-released track “Yeah,” the mesmerizing drones, short, punching 808s and catchy hook drag you into the record from the moment you press play. Coming in with the line “You can get stuck like a semtex,” the vocalists bars kick you in an instant, with a flow tailoring alongside the beat without fault.
Following this comes “Nerves.” Clunky bells rattle over skittish hats, systematically messy to keep you uncertain of what might follow. Fukkit’s flow doesn’t miss a beat however, with bars gushing over the instrumental at what feels like an unstoppable rate; every line punching with tenacious force. The sudden, dark sample from an interview with murderer Aileen Wuornos placed midway through is chilling, however with it placed over a relaxed, easy-going Rhodes piano. The result is haunting, and the duo interlope it with the track flawlessly. Third track “Mincemeat” is punchily agile. Dark, backwards percussion is combined with a range of eerie chants and effects. Dutchman’s production stands out on the track, bringing in a range of abnormal sounds combined with aggressive trap production, finishing up with a destructive end product.
After this comes brisk, bouncy track “Woke.” Composed instrumentally of basic percussion and soft soundscapes, the track is minimal yet effective. An unorthodox bassline combined with lively hats result in the perfect track for Fukkit to glide over with his upbeat flow. Fifth up is “Fly (On the Wall).” Hasty high hats streaming alongside clunky synths, the song is briskly pacey. Brutal bars such as ‘’You’ll get cut up like pastrami” slice into you, leaving you uncomfortably engrossed what’s going to come next.
Finally comes “Flashbang.” Opening with a dark, sinister drone slithering through, Fukkit speaks on this intro; ‘’Hold up, there’s a droning noise coming from my headphones, oh that’s the beat?’’ Chants from the overkill game mode in Halo are played before the slamming 808s. Adding little details such as the sound of a squeaking bed added by Dutchman pad up the beat, complimenting the simplicity without leaving it sounding empty. Lethal bars such as ‘’The bodies drop like Drowning Pool’’ and the captivating hook ‘’Flashbang//White screen//No Field of Vision’’ prove the vocalist’s lyrical dexterity is undefeatable.
With these crafty bars, masterful arsenal of flows, and relentless energy, Fukkit proves he isn’t just another rapper. By combining with the incredibly talented Dutchman, Scratch Paper is one of Fukkit’s most complete bodies of work yet. Listen to the full project down below.
