View a Decaying America with Slater’s Music Video for “On Another Planet”

In a scene where there is ample amounts of dull, repetitive acts, Slater brings a level of musicianship that is seldom heard. The artist hailing from Orange County first caught our eye after debuting the music video for his 000garrett produced track “On Another Planet,” which offers an otherworldly journey into a part of America that appears to be lost in time.

As a single guitar twangs alongside a bassline in the intro, our scene is set with a low resolution look into the golden haze of a decaying town. Strong percussion from 000garrett kicks in as Slater’s soothing, high-pitched vocals recite the hook “I’m on another planet / don’t take that shit for granted.” The viewer is met with Slater and company exploring trails, diners, and bridges, yet there is an ominous feeling present —  he himself tells us, “It was a little eerie filming because there are only a handful of people who live [in that Gold Rush era town] and they are not too kind to people walking around filming.” Cars roll past, dogs play in the grass, and lover’s names are etched into wood, but a heavy feeling remains in the air.

At first glance, it might come off as a simple, self-shot music video on VHS, yet it is much more than that. Slater was able to express the exact essence of his song visually, bringing us into an entirely different world with his instrumentation and vocals. He captured the dying part of America, a town that won’t ever escape it’s dated lifestyle. So get out of your old ways, put on your new face, and step into another planet with Slater’s video down below.
