Blvc Svnd Rises to Power: Introducing Purpose

As an artist grows artistically, it is to be expected they outgrow their roots. With age and experience comes further clarity on an artist’s direction, and inspires what they hope to gain from their career. An artist must be willing to take risks during their development. Many enter the game with talent and work ethic, however gaining an eye for business requires a mindset one can only acquire through trial and error, a slew of bad work experiences, and a certainty in your craft. Many artists realize a pivotal moment in their career, in which they seem to step into the creative shoes they were meant to wear.

Never afraid of artistic risks, Blvc Svnd has found his; realizing himself a born leader and pioneering his own collective PURPOSE. The previous Midnight Society affiliate has been on overdrive for the entirety of 2018; releasing multiple full length projects, several music videos, and now tackling his own label. Though leaving Midnight was not easy, the decision was just one of many beneficial to his future; “I left Midnight because I felt like I was a leader, and I was closer with my Purpose homies, cause we all stay in the same city; so I had the idea to start my own little collective.” The group joins BLVC SVND, GIZMO, KWESI, Tim LYNCH, and swvde., each known for their ability to captivate their audiences through their intimidating, heavy styles. Each of these artists, while also sharing a bond through their true friendship, are connected through their music already, with their creating compass pointing in the same direction,

“We have the same interests so we connect on a personal level first, then when we make music the connection is strong because we have the connection as brothers first,” he added.

Beyond the musical result Blvc Svnd hopes Purpose yields, he is excited to step into the role of creative director, and fully explore his artistic direction,  “I’m a really creative person so I’ve always been in the background giving my ideas and stuff like that, so I think me as a creative director requires a different state of mind. It doesn’t tie into my music, cause when I make music I have complete control, but when I direct something creatively I wanna take pointers and shit so everyone is satisfied.”

This collective is much more than an opportunity to prove himself as a leader or refocus his creative flow, as he has spent his career battling himself to get to this point; it is the silver lining to come of internal strife which left ‘purpose’ as a personal mantra for Blvc Svnd, “October of last year I wanted to commit suicide, because I ain’t really see no worth in this life, then i realized that being an artist/musician is the reason why I’m on this planet..”

“…Music is the only thing that makes me happy no matter the circumstances, and supports me 100%, so I’ve always had the word purpose in my head. When I thought of the name for the label, Purpose was the first thing that came into my head and it stuck, so I decided Purpose is the name.”

With a names like this littering their roster, one can only imagine the ferocity this crew will be hitting the community with. Though we are unsure how long it will be before a formal project emerges, Purpose Tape Volume 1 is already in the works. Make sure to follow their twitter and instagram to stay updated on each of the members solo work and upcoming announcements on Purpose as a whole.

“Purpose is nothing but raw, real energy. We are not doing this for attention or money, we are doing this because we have a genuine love for music.”
