Indulge in Meloncholoy with Blacklunged’s “fuk”

Seventeen year old up and coming artist blacklunged is quickly mastering his craft. Blacklunged is a member of the collective, almost angelic, an eclectic group of artists making a name for themselves on Soundcloud. Blacklunged has been releasing track after track this year at a record pace, each with their own unique flavor and sound. His self-produced track, “fuk” (ft. OG Ferg) is his most understated and vulnerable track to date. We are lulled into blacklunged’s nightmare with a gentle harp, layered with sweet, ethereal lo-fi whispers. Mellow 808s wash as blacklunged offers his depressive bars.

“I see your face when I’m coming down/ Sunshine in my mind when your going down/ Said I’d never let you down/ I’ll get you away from town/ Fuck me up, I’m upside-down/ My brains always been inside out.”

Blacklunged’s flow throughout is slow and longing as he contemplates his lifestyle, the lost thoughts in his head, the steady stream of pills being popped. The melancholic narrative leaves room for the listener to indulge in Blacklunged’s (and their own) hopelessness. A self-indulgent lullaby fit to cry to, while maintaining it’s fresh sound and minimalist approach to the “drug narrative” that is prominent in the underground scene. The lyrics of “fuk” explore what it’s like to catch your reflection at the bottom of another bottle. To watch yourself from above as you repeat the same toxic cycles, the same numbness, a different day:

“I’m fucking drownin’ in these pill bottles/well, depending on these spilt bottles/ always see me through the bottom/ always got some other problem/Take my love, that’s all I got/ I’ll be back before tomorrow”

What is most impressive about blacklunged’s work is his particular attention to originality in every track he puts out while simultaneously cultivating his own sound, his own voice. It’s a rarity to find such a clean balance between bold experimentation and a preserved, recognizable core to your sound as musician, and blacklunged is capturing that balance. Some of his tracks hold a very pop-punk feel while others are hard-hitting trap hits, all expertly executed. “Fuk” is no exception. Blacklunged is showing immense promise as an artist and producer and we’re excitedly anticipating where he’ll venture next.
