The Australia based artist, KILLSADIST, has an extraordinary work ethic and is rapidly gaining a following. After four EPs in the past three months, dozens of singles, many produced by the bona fide Sid White, KILLSADIST is making a name for himself (and rightfully so). KILLSADIST stands out from the pack with his vulnerable and deeply honest lyrics as well as a knack for gracefully teetering on the line of alternative and hip-hop. One of KILLSADIST’s latest tracks “IDK”, produced by NO.9, is easily an emo-rap staple. IDK features major acoustic notes, a subtle bass line and a light 808, laying down a gloomy backdrop for KILLSADIST’s heartfelt lyrics and slurred vocals.
“Nobody knows what we have been through, girl/ I got pain I should’ve not even been through, girl/ I’ve been alone, I’ve been sentimental, girl, throw my heart right out the door/ I’ve been alone cause I miss getting high with you, getting high up in my room”
The longing for a nostalgic past that was never there to begin with, the hopelessness one is hit with when they stare into the void, the dire search for purpose, are all achingly evoked in “IDK.” “I don’t know what I be doing, but I’m doing it/ I don’t know what I be feelin’ but I feelin’ it/I don’t know what I’m taking, but I take it anyway.” Whenever an artist comes along wearing their pain on their sleeve like KILLSADIST, it is a reminder of the beauty and sense of purpose that can bloom from of our personal hell; that there is something beyond the moment we need to grasp, no matter how fleeting it may be. And that feeling of release is why we create and listen to music in the first place. “IDK” will bring your existential burden to the forefront and leave you questioning the futility and meaninglessness of everyday life. However, KILLSADIST carries us through the pain with his steady cadence, and a promise that “it’ll be okay” in the end, no matter where we may wander.
