Saphir Delves into the Nature of Memory in “Mother Mercy”

Saphir has been posting her masterful tracks on Soundcloud for over three years and shows no signs of slowing down her prolific work ethic. Known for her powerful vocals, fearless experimentation, and heart wrenching lyrics, Saphir is both the angel and the devil on your shoulder. There’s no doubt that this gifted, multi-faceted, artist is carving out her own path within the musical landscape. Her latest Splashgvng produced track “Mother Mercy” is a stunning alt-rock track featuring understated beats and a wiry guitar riff. What really shines in the track is Saphir’s flawless flow, which remains perfectly balanced on the edge of hip-hop and alternative throughout.

“Stories of the things that we used to do/ I’m feelin’ nervous when I’m chillin’ in the back room/ I’m feelin’ nervous when I think I really had you/ I’m feelin’ nervous ‘cause this song ain’t even about you.”

The narrative of “Mother Mercy” follows the obsession of memory. The way the lingering image of a person, or a story can take on a life of their own within the walls of your mind. The way your brain fixates on the things you wished you had said, a twisted nostalgia for a faded past, are all brought to the forefront. “Remind me what I have kept/ You’ve got me on my knees, oh please.” It’s a slip into the dimension between fact and fiction, between memory and illusion.

Saphir wants to assure her fans that she’s got a lot a big plans for the upcoming weeks and to stay tuned for her performance in the beloved Emo Nite tour next month. For now, check out “Mother Mercy” below.
