unknxwn. has been sharing his depressive, introverted, bars on Soundcloud for a year now. His latest Biv produced single, “i didn’t care.” is his most transparent narrative yet. unknxwn.’s songs tend to circle around a few core existential concepts. “How are you able to live in the moment when the past has its hands around your neck?”as well as “How are we supposed to make our way through a mental, social and cultural landscape devoid of inherent meaning?” are reoccurring questions he explores.
unknxwn.’s answers to these big questions are rather fatalistic, with a sense of lingering hope. unknxwn.’s vocal delivery on “i didn’t care.” is very sobering, which contrasts sharply with his loaded lyrics. Biv’s production on remains airy and hypnotizing throughout, and contributes to the enduring apathy of the track. When we reached out for comment unknxwn. revealed that the song, “Describes everything I’ve dealt with in the most blunt way possible for me, and I actually made this song a while ago, but I wasn’t emotionally ready for it to be posted.”
“I say that I’d rather die and some people take that shit as a joke/ They laugh and they smile so fucking hard/ I bet they would laugh if I took a rope/Then tied that bitch into a fuckin noose/Then stood the fuck up on a fuckin’ chair/Jump & then struggle fightin’ for air/ Suicide note reads: “I didn’t care.”
“i didn’t care” gives us far more than a glimpse into the toll loneliness can take on a person, and the vicious cycle of isolation, trust issues, and disgust, that further a toxic state of mind. unknxwn. is here to remind us that mental and emotional agony is not a trend, not a choice, but rather a hell on earth, a daily struggle to face your reflection in the mirror. unknxwn. shows great potential, and if you’re not already listening we highly suggest you take a walk through all his work to date.
