909Memphis is unmistakable, both sonically and visually.
The Virginia based vocalist has a distinct visual aesthetic, at times vaguely reminiscent of an 80’s coke lord straight out of a Starsky and Hutch movie. Listening to his work tends to makes you feel that way, too. An unexpected change of pace in his new single, “Prove It,” bolsters the simple fact; you should be paying attention.
Adding to an already impressive repertoire of sounds, Memphy opted to extend his influence into a 80’s 4/4 dance track with producer Fish to great success. Largely driven by a slap bass and regularly alternating kicks and snares, this beat serves as a perfect backdrop for the confidence infused lines that ensue. Spacious pads and string-style synths fill in at will, as trademark 909Memphis vocals — creative rhythms, distinct high register tonality, and priceless back track accompaniments, add another layer of addictive melody. “Prove It” is seamless.
909Memphis has refined his craft immensely over the short amount of time he has been releasing music, and projecting his growth makes his future look really good. Given that an album is apparently in the works, there is a lot to look forward to. Downtrodden heartbreak songs, R&B ballads, and now pure dance tracks are being churned out, without losing what makes Memphy, Memphy. The guy is multi-faceted, and is moving with the utmost confidence. Stay tuned.
