1990BISHOP’s story is one of overcoming great odds. It’s been a steady grind to get the notoriety he has today, with tracks on his SoundCloud dating back two years ago. However, as of late it seems like he is on the brink of stardom. Before venturing into music, 1990BISHOP was a kid who loved skateboarding and playing basketball. Now he’s got songs with a multitude of plays and big time producers and artists wanting to work with him. The Virginia native dug a bit into his past and shared the story of his come-up. We started at the beginning of how he first found his passion for making music.
“I’ve been into music since I was about 11 but I started recording songs like 3 years ago because my friend Hunter hyped me up to do it but he stopped recording with me like beginning of 2018,” he explained.
Not many artists have surfaced from his hometown, making him one of the pioneers of his area. “The music scene here in Leesburg / Herndon was Austin Skinner & fridaynite when I first started recording. I didn’t know anyone other than them two doing it indie.”
Although his journey has been a positive one, 1990BISHOP has seen the shady side of things as well. He spoke on how he feels about some of the more negative experiences he’s had since he started.
“Everyone is a lowkey clout fiend that’s why most people won’t mess with you unless you around their level, and everyone wants to compare artist and say this person sounds like this person etc. The fact that people won’t show love cuz they think it’s a competition instead of just showing love to what they like and not fake love to what’s poppin’.”
Using that envy and artificial support as motivation, he’s crafted two of his favorite songs regarding the topic: “‘My Haters‘ and ‘watch me win‘ are my favorite songs of mine, just because a lot of underground artist had NO idea I would get any type of play on my music so it’s just like watch me ya dig… Oh and shoutout young ali for that. He’s my manager who really took me to the next level and we only started working 5 months ago.”
A few months back, 1990BISHOP released “The Mood”, that well-decorated producer Danny Wolf helped create. The achievement is all too casual for 1990BISHOP, who was quite humble about the collaboration.
“young ali called him and make it happen. He was messing with my sound so he said pick some beats.”
Despite making major achievements such as the one stated above, the work continues for 1990BISHOP. He has a clear desire for success and is edging towards it.
“2019 I’m tryna move to Atlanta and imma just keep dropping music with bigger and bigger artists/producers.”
He ended our mini interview by keeping it short and simple.
”Shout out the gang 1990 wave”.
