Yung Scuff gets “HONEST” prod. DJ KHALED’S SON

Over the past year Yung Scuff (no longer the star seeker) has dropped his first album, several heartbreaking acoustic covers, and original lo-fi love songs that have captivated his followers. While the artist has undoubtedly made some major moves in 2018, his latest single “HONEST prod. DJ KHALED’S SON” contrasts everything he’s done so far.

Scuff’s sheer talent is apparent in even his earliest tracks. The clarity in his voice and the composition of his originals makes it obvious he has the potential to take his music as far as he wants, however because of the flexibility of his range and style it was hard to tell exactly where his music would land. I could’ve seen either his acoustic covers or original singles sparking major attention, but now having heard “HONEST” I think we’re catching a glimpse of what the next year could bring for Yung Scuff.

Complete with a signature hair color, Yung Scuff seems to have honed in on the brand behind his music. Racking up talented friends and impressive features, the confidence we hear in this track is indicative of where he’s going not where he’s been. He manages to make a raw love song;

“You say I’m too blunt well I’d rather be honest

I don’t want you thinkin’ I’m still on this shit

cuz I’m so sick of running away from it…

But I’m not So over this

I just needed to show you that I could make it.”

Equally heartbreaking as his earlier love songs but distinctly less apologetic, I can see him running with the honesty behind this track and allowing himself to take big moves in 2019. If you haven’t been turned onto Yung Scuff in the past, listening to this track you’ll agree the new year is the time to start listening.
