Watch Hellfiger Break Down Musical Conventions in his “WASTE AWAY” Music Video

First coming across Hellfiger, it’s easy to find the DMV artist perplexing. With a lethargic flow and indecipherable lyrics, all musical conventions are thrown out the window — but it’s this enigmatic approach to songwriting which makes Hellfiger so exciting. In the GOLDENUZI shot and DANI edited music video for “Waste Away,” we are met with the self proclaimed “RARE TOXIC TEEN” as he delivers his verses in between alleyways and waterfronts.

What is particularly noteworthy is the fact that Hellfiger opts to use pronouns infrequently in his lyrics, opening the track with the line “blood drip from face.” In fact, the song sounds more like non-rhyme poetry than it does rap bars, “Cluttered in brain / no convos today / locked in this shell / LEDs shine off of me.” It’s as if we are listening to the young artist’s train of thoughts live, in real time. It’s unconventional, yet Hellfiger’s prose is infectious, and the ambient hoodwtch produced beat is as dark as it is sugary.

In a scene oversaturated with artists sounding more and more like each other, Hellfiger is a refreshing outlier. Alongside his brothers in the equally as exciting SHÏNÏ GÄNG, Hellfiger is easily poised to burtst out of the DMV. In the meantime, watch the visuals for the “#1 SONG IN CHERNOBYL” down below.
