Orrin, releasing content out of NYC, is both highly underrated and multi-talented. The rapper has been putting out music for over 4 years and is still someone you want to pay attention to as his growing release frequency and live appearances are beginning to push him back into the spotlight.
Opening for some shockingly well known artists, modeling for designers as renowned as Telfar, creating a Vice released music video illegally filmed in the Met Museum to (successfully) protest it’s exclusionary pricing, AND taking a 2 year hiatus from music to pursue an education at NYU’s Stern School of Business are just a few of Orrin’s many accomplishments. Recognizing his well rounded approach to the arts and his undeniable successes are essential in completely appreciating his content.
The most impressive aspect of Orrin’s music is his versatility, his sound consistently borders electronic while staying rooted in a classic hip hop. His most recent release, “Moscow Freestyle (ft. that boy miles)” showcases his mature flow that you can hear develop through his entire release history.
One of the most satisfying things about this freestyle is their use of ad-libs that aren’t distracting or sound like filler, upon listening it’s immediately apparent that it’s why their sound is so easy on the ears. With a swanky beat and effortlessly rolling lines from that boy miles and Orrin himself, the freestyle really holds its own.
An accompanying music video has been released featuring both rappers in a compilation of memoji expressions and light hearted scenes. While admittedly the video isn’t his most refined, it portrays the relationship between the two artists well and makes it much more obvious that it isn’t their first time collaborating.
If this is your first time hearing of Orrin, do yourself a favor and take a listen through his older tracks and to “Moscow Freestyle” in preparation for his next drop. With his momentum growing again, it’s safe to assume we’ll be hearing more from him within the first half of this year.
