Seattle native Capoxxo, along with frequent collaborators Yung Shame and Pvscale, can do it all. Sounding equally well on a guitar or plug beat, Capoxxo and crew master a ton of different styles. But perhaps the most interesting of their sounds is the one on display in Capoxxo’s new song “dying on the dance floor,” featuring Pvscale. Slurred vocals, harsh synth leads, and a hard-hitting club beat come together to form a pastiche that can most accurately be described as intoxicated rave-rap.
In the accompanying visual directed by @dyesmile, Capoxxo and Pvscale are seen dancing — no, stumbling — in place amongst a backdrop of dizzying club lights, while lyrics like “yeah we were fucked up on the dancefloor, lil shawty tweaking in the nightcore, off a pill I need two more” blare overhead. The clear disconnect between the song’s upbeat instrumental and Capoxxo and Pvscale’s sedated, morose vocal style makes the juxtaposition of the two dancing at an empty basement light show all the more effective. The video seems to be a shouting reminder that they’d dance if only they could stand up, and they’d rave if only they could get there.
