Shrimp Self Reflects With “Sewed Shut”

The highly talented, Atlanta based producer/vocalist shrimp has reappeared with his new single “sewed shut.” With mellifluous vocals and self-observing lyricism, the self produced track gives listeners a lot to think about.

Tagged as ‘isolated’, “sewed shut” is a look from the outside in to the cognizance of shrimp himself. Line after line of self reflective thoughts captivate listeners while a mid-tempo production acts as support. Feelings of loneliness are translated through the chorus as shrimp sings “Where are you going? Slow down, there’s only so far you can run ‘fore your legs give out (slow down). Keep it inside you, sewed shut; Deep scars to remind you that you’re all you’ve got (no love).”

Giving deeper understanding to his emotions, shrimp continues on the path of cogitation as he feels he is “free falling into darkness,” yet despite the negativity he is enduring, he knows “it’s not permanent.” Moving swiftly through the next verse, shrimp brings a sense of vulnerability as he reveals how isolation and despondency hold him back:

“Live the way I want, but I’m still far from free // Demons always haunt me I can’t get to sleep.”

Repeated once more, the chorus is sung through and the beat is left to play out until the song has reached its full conclusion.

Throughout the track, shrimp touches upon important subjects such as the feelings of seclusion and dejection that are often kept inside. The acute emotion that listeners can hear and feel within his voice is both relatable and alluring, leaving us wanting more. While waiting to hear what shrimp has for us next, listen to “sewed shut.”
