The week of January 20th was one of high suspense for the ravenous fans of Night Lovell. Listeners of the tenebrous artist waited in excitement for the release of the rapper’s third full-length project GOODNIGHTLOVELL, previously set to drop January 25th. The album would be about 2 years in the making at the time of its release, and Lovell has voiced his frustration with himself for taking so long with the ensemble.

Unfortunately, two days prior to the album’s release date fans were greeted with an Instagram post from Lovell, depicting a handwritten letter containing bad news for Lovell stans. The letter from the delphic artist addressed his fans directly, letting them know that the album would be pushed back to February 22nd. Luckily the message was not entirely egregious, as Lovell concluded the scrawled message with: “I have a full month of content for you guys starting midnight tomorrow. As soon as the 25th hits.”

Surely enough, with the 25th came a new single “Bad Kid,” produced by Ginseng and Team SESH’s Fifty Grand. The song contains all the trademarks of a Lovell track, with Ginseng & Fifty’s input apparent throughout the two and half minute excursion. Outfitted with a sinister duo-tone melody that bounces back and forth around your head, Lovell is back in full effect on a track this menacing. Deep 808s rumble with skittering hi hats and trap snares as Lovell delivers his usual iniquitous lines, rapping:

“Lil pussy, I’ma make you feel this blade in

All your bitches comin’ to me ’cause they love me

She said, “Daddy, I can feel it in my tummy”

Pussy nigga tryna call his fuckin’ mommy

You be laughin’ but I swear this shit ain’t funny”

To continue with Lovell’s promised “month of content” a video has also been released for the single. The Avery Stedman directed music video depicts an apathetic Lovell walking the halls of a desolate house as a diverse group of motionless onlookers give Lovell baleful looks, as if entranced by the rapper. Bisecting these shots is Lovell rapping to a ceiling mounted camera, baring his iced-out teeth like a vicious dog. Lovell continues his menacing stare as the background of the shot is engulfed in flames, followed by a reveal of what Lovell’s gaze was resting upon. Cut to the skeleton from the GOODNIGHTLOVELL album art, fully outfitted in a spiked leather jacket, going up in flames along with the Ottawa rapper.

GOODNIGHTLOVELL is looking up to be one of Lovell’s most cohesive pieces to date, and if “Bad Kid” is any indication of what we’re to expect from the devilish rapper, then you’d better stay tuned in. Watch the official video for the single below.
