It’s been nearly a year since we spoke with NJ based artist Rahmaan. Looking back at his library of music, his style can be described as a classic r&b/hip hop combined with hints of his Bengali roots. While he does have some songs that feel as though they fall further towards mainstream hip hop, his latest single gorgeously blurs lines between genres once again.
This release, “Wrth,” is a dreamy and lyrically unique ballad cowritten with Tyler Coolidge and produced by Rahmaan himself. The lyrics are undeniably passionate and borderline obsessive, proving that Rahmaan’s ability to communicate deep emotion through music is nearly unmatched.
“I been thinkin’ every single day, ‘Am I right for you, am I enough?’
‘Am I everything that you need to be free and yourself, or what?'”“Tell me my worth, shona tell me my worth
Tell me my worth love, tell me my worth…”
The song standing alone is hypnotic, but just yesterday with the release of the music video the track’s full impact becomes an experience. Absolutely next level visuals provided by motion designer Jordan Chappell, this video is a compilation of countless perfectly constructed renders to confuse, delight, and ultimately elevate “wrth” past the level of impact most music videos achieve.
Above all this release proves that Rahmaan needs to be followed closely as this year goes on. As he continues to top his best songs with his new releases, continued growth is clearly inevitable. While he has not had any live performances as of late, Rahmaan confirmed he is focusing all his energy on purely making music, which after experiencing “wrth”, is undeniably exciting.
