Melodist lil skele is always “dreaming”

Singer-songwriter lil skele may only be 17-years-old, but the Indiana native has continuously churned out promising tracks ever since his career began. Songs like “i’ll be ok this time” and “fall against your wall” are only a small sample size of lil skeles relatively new catalog, yet they both display a demonstration of focus and heartache. His newest song, “dreaming“, is an upbeat 808 driven tune about longing for something to happen that is ultimately a hopeless dream.

Produced by nate2timez, the song begins with chopped chords and a bouncy hat pattern. The production around “dreaming” separates lil skele from his usual guitar driven instrumental, something he had wanted to try.

“I had wanted to do something more upbeat and less guitar based, so the beat was perfect for what I had wanted to do,” skele explains. “I met nate through biteki collective, and we talked about working on something and he sent me the beat for dreaming”.

Through the song, lil skele describes how a lover will never let him in and will always leave him hurting. He realizes that the past is the past, yet lil skele still wrestles with the memories of his old relationship. Lil skele confirmed that the song was written “dreaming about someone I fell out with awhile back that I never really made amends with”, and said that he still thinks about how things never quite panned out.

Every time I wake up I’m dreaming // Everything changes quick with the seasons

With an impressive lyrical and tonal drift through the song, listeners will feel every word lil skele is saying. The song sets up lil skele for what should be an amazing run this year, which he says will be filled with a new EP as well as various other songs with some of his most frequent collaborators.

“Right now I’m just dreaming of a bright future and to be happy, as cliche as that sounds (laughs)”.
