MIRSY Reflects In Latest EP “Permanent For Now”

With soft, amicable vocals and seamless transitions, Permanent For Now has MIRSY at her very best. Produced, mixed, and mastered by døves and a sole feature from Gina Almaguer, the EP serves as an amalgamation of the ethereal stylings of ambient post-punk with a modern twist on electronic hip-hop.

From start to finish, listeners are drawn into the story of despair that these tracks have to tell, all tying in beautifully to the overall theme of the project. The title Permanent For Now proves to be fitting; from talking about the possibility of being forgotten on “Terrified” to aching to hold on to feelings shared on “Another Run” it is clear that MIRSY did not hold back any feelings, rather, she appears to have released the ones held inside.

Having primarily played in bands for the majority of her musical career, MIRSY formed her own distinct musical style, almost sounding as if Slowdive or the Cocteau Twins started singing over R&B production on SoundCloud. With an equal interest in electronica, she divulges that this project with døves was her first “attempt” at combining both of the genres she loves.

MIRSY shares that working with the enigmatic member of GothBoiClique was a dream, “I always loved døves’ music. It just so happened to work out that Dark Medicine recommended we work together. It overall ended up being a great fit because we both have very similar musical interests. døves is very talented and not only was it an honor to work with him, but I am very thankful he was open to it as well.”

Speaking on the title, MIRSY explains, “I assumed that everything in my life was permanent when I was at my low point. Once I started seeing things in more of a positive light, I realized that every aspect of my life being stagnant and “permanent” wasn’t necessarily true.”

When asked about her favorite song, MIRSY discloses that she does not have one. Each song’s unique story grew on her overtime, forming a strong bond between both the artist and the art. Providing fervent lyricism on every track, each individual story flawlessly blends into the next; there is a story of passion, heartache, and yearning for clarity to be found. MIRSY’s internal struggle with overwhelming thoughts and emotions is made evident on tracks such as “Trust Me” and “Four Days” :

Haven’t looked up in 4 days//The light is gone //Hard to remember a nice day//Been feeling so on and off

Aforementioned songs “Terrified” and “Another Run” tell two completely opposite stories; one of self-doubting nature, and the other of openness with internalized feelings. The tales told in each individual song all tie together wonderfully as though they are all part of one long story; MIRSY’s ability to pull listeners into her own distinctive thoughts and encapsulate them in her pure emotion is simply something that one must experience for themselves.

The EP’s personal meaning is actually quite similar, she reveals. “To me, the EP is generally about being at a low point in my life and realizing that music, my family, friends, and the people who support me are all that I have. These are the things that inspire me on a daily basis and remind me to never give up because everyone is truly here for a reason. Once I realized this, I was able to pull out of the low point in my life and keep going.”
