Through pixelated obscurities, New Jersey native shinigami has once again proven himself distinctively more intuitive than that of the average underground creator. Progressively exploring different genres of music and stylistic approaches, shinigami attempts to become the trailblazer of digital escapism with auto tune croons on his latest single “blur.” Accompanied with a self-directed music video, shinigami pours out his detailed emotional weight covered behind glitchy and glistening effects.
Akin to an intro of a computer game, the music video starts with a flash of a small loading screen reading INITIATING SYSTEM 1. Gently swaying behind a screen of pixelated purples and greens, shinigami begins the song with one of his most rapturous hooks to date.
Blur my vision, can’t see me at all
Shattered memories of what I once was
Produced by frequent collaborator 4evr, “blur” gives listeners an instantaneous feeling of grim tranquility. The hard-hitting bass lines meshed with reverb-heavy hi-hats creates an ideal space for shinigami to shine. Shinigami gleams across the 4evr instrumental soothingly singing about his own self doubt.
Looking ahead, shinigami is preparing to release his highly anticipated single “gem stones” and has been teasing an upcoming project. Until then, enjoy the ominous “blur” below.
