Oliver Francis – “BESERK”
For years, Missourian rapper and producer Oliver Francis has had a steady stream of singles with accompanying music videos. However, Oliver’s self-directed music video for “BESERK” is a stark contrast of the run-and-gun music videos he’s become so well known for. Despite the single being another anthemic flex track, the visuals feature multiple scenes of often ominous and seemingly unrelated imagery. — Jack Angell
GRXGVR – “Kärlekstunneln”
GLIZZI FROM THE NORF is GRXGVR’s debut album, although the Swedish musician has been producing since as early as 2013 for artists such as Bones, Yung Lean, and Syringe. His album features Haydn, Jaxxon D. Silva, Caspian Rose, $OUDIERE, and NYKTON, as well as this atmospheric track “Kärlekstunneln.” — Jack Angell
Curtis Heron – “There Never Was Freedom”
Curtis Heron has consistently been on the cutting edge of the underground, and the TeamSESH producer’s recent EP, Modern Misery, demonstrates that isn’t changing anytime soon. The unsettling project features sinister synths layered with vocal samples of what one can only assume is a police raid. With its genre listed as “Ambient / Horror” on SoundCloud, “There Never Was Freedom” sounds fit for a dystopian sci-fi movie score — or perhaps a thriller on a modern day America. — Jack Angell
Ashton Traitor – Flatline
The most creative music video of 2019 may have been shot entirely on an iPhone. Ashton Traitor’s self-directed visuals for “flatline” has each and every scene’s imagery paired with the lyrics. Ashton can be seen in front of a UPS store when he spits, “Got the pack and I’m moving like UPS,” or holding a dog on a leash as he professes, “When I track ‘em down I’ma move like a bloodhound.” — Jack Angell
sosi – “Relentless” (Prod. Chris Angel)
sosi has returned to her tried-and-true style with the dispirited single “Relentless.” A sullen track about an unceasing emotional pain, “Relentless” finds sosi’s signature mournful vocals over an ambient back track produced by Chris Angel. The first song she mixed and mastered herself, “Relentless” is a promising indication of sosi’s future success. — Alexandra Bateman
supachefm – “changing the season” w/ fats’e
After over a year-long hiatus from music, supachefm has finally returned — and arguably better than ever. With “supachefm szn. 1” plastered all over his social media, his latest single “changing the season” is aptly named, and also boasts production and powerful vocals by fats’e. — Jack Angell
familypet – “spend the night”
A few months ago, the future of familypet remained uncertain. They announced that Mitche would be leaving the group and that M;ars would be going on tour as familypet, alone. Yet to many’s surprise, Mitche ended up joining that tour, and the duo just released their album DATING. The project explores the ups and downs of dating, including the melodic track “spend the night.” — Jack Angell
Wicca Phase Springs Eternal – “Put Me In Graves”
Wicca Phase’s second full length studio album Suffer On released earlier this year instantly became a fan favorite. After performing in virtually every corner of the United States on the album’s accompanying tour, Wicca Phase released the visuals “Put Me In Graves.” The music video is full of everything we’ve come to love about Wicca — it’s dark, it’s occult, slightly humorous, and of course, just a little bit peculiar. — Jack Angell
Eyekeem – “Heart” (Prod. Thrillboy)
Combining old-school, G-Funk style synths with the spacey trap sound currently taking over the underground, this Thrillboy produced track gives Eyekeem’s laid-back auto-crooning space to shine. If you’re looking for a song to soundtrack the car ride home after copping the latest underground brand’s rhinestone encrusted hoodie, there’s truly no better song than “Heart.” — Sam Thraxx
Zenden Lavon – “Honey Bourbon”
When it comes to hip-hop culture, the United Arab Emirates is a country that is slowly but surely developing its own. At the forefront is 18-year-old Dubai-based rapper Zenden Lavon, who dropped his first release of 2019, “Honey Bourbon.” Lavon spits intense and honest bars over panning percussion coupled with piercing instrumentation. — Tamara May
