The lead single off of “Legendary Member” features ECCO2K and production by Gud
Thaiboy Digital’s entire world was uprooted after his deportation. Originally born in Thailand, the musician kicked off his flourishing rap career in Sweden after living there for the majority of his life. Yet afer visa disputes, he was eventually forced to leave the Scandinavian country and return to Thailand, where he adjusted to a new life after becoming separated from everything he previously knew. Now based in Bangkok, Thaiboy Digital has released “Lip Service,” featuring fellow Drain Gang member ECCO2K and production courtesy of Gud.
As the lead single from Thaiboy Digital’s highly anticipated album Legendary Member, “Lip Service” has a brighter, bouncier sound than the majority of his discography. A twanging guitar is graced by Gud’s airy percussion as Thaiboy contemplates on his wealth and maturity: “Hating on the kid, I became a man.” Swelling synths eventually lead into ECCO2K’s pitched up and breathy hook, where he repeats the phrases gossip and “lip service” — verbal but insincere expressions. Yet Thaiboy’s words are anything but empty, and he’s got the “racks on racks” to prove it. As Thaiboy jubilantly carries the outro, it becomes apparent that “Lip Service” is a departure from his earlier material. Instead, he’s offering a more optimistic twist on the despondent, “sad boy” sound he helped pioneer as a teenager.
Legendary Member is due September 26th via YEAR0001. Until then, listen to “Lip Service” below:
