Sometimes the best content comes from a lack of planning. 83Hades and Bambi show a laissez-faire approach on their “RUNTZ FREESTYLE” song and video that keeps you on your toes.
Reminiscing on a recent trip to Los Angeles, 83 shares that he knew Bambi would be perfect on the track, “I had made the song originally the day before I went to LA. I just knew Bambi would spazz on that open, so we hit it. Then 30 minutes later we started shooting the video.” Produced by Reapyy and Aletheo, the instrumental is punchy and active, setting up an ideal playground for freestyle delivery. 83 emerges just seconds into the track’s start, brimming with energy that does not waiver. With a verse that lasts nearly two and a half minutes, 83 has no shortage of intricacies to dance around the beat. The drums maintain their energy while the melody becomes darker. Bambi glides in with his signature ferocity and varying vocalics. The pair utilize the entirety of the instrumental in a sinister yet playful manner.
The visuals by Andrew Goach came to life on a whim, just like the song. Goach arrived 30 minutes after the song’s completion, and went straight to work shooting. “Grabbed my camera, a couple of lenses, and the VHS and we just went out and started shooting at some spots around the studio,” said Goach. “Totally forgot my speaker, so we were out there bumping the song off of iPhones and Macbooks.”
“RUNTZ FREESTYLE”, though created without a clear image, is cohesive in that every collaborator was able to bring what they wanted to the project and enjoy themselves during. With the pressure on every artist to come up with the next best thing, many can get lost in their creative processes.
