What initially amazed me after listening to KARI was not the fact that he is 17 years old, neither was it his very impressive flow and delivery. Rather, it was his lyrics about John Proctor, a main character Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible, that pleasantly took me by surprise. In an age where lyricism is not as crucial in music, it is refreshing to see rappers like KARI using clever word play and references that may go unnoticed to the average listener. We got the chance to sit down with the young Chicago musician to talk about process of creating his new project VENUS DOES(NT) EXIST, the Chicago music scene, his inspirations, and more.
